ASP Summer Mission Trip
Each Summer the First Church youth travel to Appalachia Service Project (ASP) to share the love of Christ through service. For 46 years, our congregation has sent teams of students to help rebuild the homes of individuals and families in some of the most poverty stricken parts of our nation, the Appalachia mountains of Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina.
Youth earn participation in this event through fund raising and training activities. Dedicated adult volunteers, with decades of combined experience in leading these trips, mentor and guide each youth through the year and on the trip. Youth are helped to make the connection between service to others and serving God. The ASP mission trip is a great way for youth to receive service-learning credit for high school graduation too!
Adult volunteers are welcome in this program. An adult volunteer is any person 18 years of age, or older. Adult volunteers must be a member of the congregation, participate in our Safe Sanctuaries training, and pass a background check in order to participate in this program.
